Autumn in Point Defiance Park | Reyna Senior Portraits

Reyna is a senior this year at Curtis High School in University Place.  We planned her session at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma and the fall colors made for an amazing backdrop.  We started off her session in the Japanese Gardens.  Within just a few clicks of the shutter, Reyna seemed completely at ease.

We had already pushed up the time of her session because the forecast wasn’t looking too cooperative, so as much as I was loving the images we were getting at the Japanese Gardens, we needed to keep moving.

Reyna told me she loves to bake in her spare time and enjoys nature.  It’s a good thing because these fuchsia plants were not the only shrubberies I put Reyna in the middle of.

While Reyna changed outfits, I explored for our next location.  I’ve never paid much attention to this area of the gardens and these big, leafy, tropical plants were a bit of a surprise!  They were a fun back drop for sure!

The rose gardens may have been past their prime, but we found loads of colorful dahlias.

This section of the park is one of my favorites.  Apparently, I’m not the only one who loves it as it was pretty busy earlier in the session.  We circled back and found it empty.  It was worth the wait.

The weather was holding, so we drove down to Owens Beach.  We walked a short ways down the promenade and found some great pieces of driftwood and a sprinkling of fall leaves.

Reyna used to play soccer, but she’s turned her attention to volunteering with the Key Club.  She’s also a member of the National Honor Society and hopes to be admitted to the University of Washington or Stanford after high school graduation to study biochemical engineering.
